The term ‘Six Sigma’ comes from statistics and is used in Statistical Quality Control (CQE) which assesses the performance of processes. For example, the numerical measure of the likelihood of a process reaching customer specifications. In principle, it originated from the terminology associated with manufacturing, referring to the ability of the manufacturing process to produce a very high proportion of outputs (outputs) within specifications. Thus, the sigma rate of a process, indicates its yield or the percentage of defect-free outputs produced. A sixsigma process is one in which it produces 99.99966% statistically of outputs without defects. Therefore, equivalent to 3.4 defects per million opportunities (Defects per million opportunities – DPMO) .

​Six Sigma uses Quality Management and Statistical Methods, creating a team of specialists in an organization (Executive Leadership, Champions, Black belt, Green Belt, Yellow belt, etc.). Thus providing the set of specific skills needed to execute a project. Each Six Sigma project executed in an organization follows a defined sequence of phases with quantified value objectives. As a result, there is a reduction in process cycle time, cost reduction, an increase in the quality rate / customer satisfaction index and a reduction in the defect rate.
